Macaw Clay Lick & Sandoval Lake 3 Days / 2 Nights
Day 1: Begin Your Adventure
Arrival at the airport or bus station and transfer to the office of Monte Amazonico Lodge and your tour operator Carlos Expeditions for the final briefing about our tour before departing on your adventure. For those with large luggage, we suggest repacking to store unnecessary items and carry just enough for the trip.
A land transfer via 4x4 wheeled truck to our destination takes about 2 hours to reach the banks of the Tambopata River (by river it will take more than 6 hours). From here, we will take a boat to the lodge "Monte Amazonico - Tambopata." Welcome and breakfast or lunch will be provided depending on arrival time.
In the afternoon, we make an introductory walk into the rainforest where we will have the opportunity to see animals in their natural habitat such as amphibians, mammals, reptiles and wonderful insects, among others.
Day 2: Dawn Expedition to El Chuncho
We wake up very early, at 4:30 am, to embark on an incredible journey by boat to the world's largest macaw clay lick "El Chuncho", a journey of about 1:30 hours by boat. Along the way, we will have the opportunity to see species such as capybaras, the world's largest rodents, tapirs, and possibly even the most beautiful South American feline, the jaguar - many of our clients have photographic evidence of encounters with these beautiful mammals.
After arrival at the macaw clay licks, you will see hundreds of parrots of different species gathering to eat clay adjacent to the river wall. We will settle in our chairs to witness one of the most beautiful natural sights of birds in the world. The parrots are followed by 3 of the most colorful species of macaws in America - reds and greens, blues and yellows come to gather to eat clay needed in their daily diet and eliminate toxins. On a good day of activity, you will see hundreds of these wonderful animals flying over you. An experience for life.
Return to our lodge for breakfast and resting time. Then we will walk through the botanical garden where you can see some fruit, timber and medicinal species in our area, accompanied by our guide. After lunch, we will have the opportunity to kayak the Tambopata River, moving silently along the river for better opportunities to observe the larger animals of the Tambopata Reserve. For the evening, you can choose to rest or participate in another night walk.
Day 3: Return Journey
After breakfast, our boat takes us back to Puerto Maldonado, following the same route back to town. Upon arrival in Puerto Maldonado, transfer to the airport terminal.
