Salkantay Trek 5 Days / 4 Nights

Embark on the most impressive adventure with the Salkantay trek, where unique experiences await, such as the stunning Humantay Lake, the challenging Salkantay Pass, and the charming village of Lucmabamba with its rich coffee culture. Enjoy panoramic views of Machu Picchu from Llactapata, and culminate your journey by exploring the architectural marvels of Machu Picchu Citadel.

Day 1: Cusco - Mollepata - Soraypampa

Pick-up between 4:45 am and 5:30 am for a journey across the Anta plains, showcasing views of Salkantay peak and the Apurimac River Valley. After a breakfast stop near Ollantaytambo, continue to Challacancha to meet our support team. Begin trekking around 9:30 am towards Soraypampa (3,900m), reaching our first campsite featuring crystal domes and huts. After lunch, hike to Humantay Lake (4,200m), followed by dinner at camp.

Day 2: Soraypampa - Salkantay Pass - Huayramachay - Chaullay

Early wake-up with coca tea and breakfast at 5:00 am. Begin the most challenging day at 6:00 am, ascending 6 kilometers through rocky mountain terrain to reach the trek's highest point. Enjoy panoramic views of Salkantay mountain (6,264m). After a two-hour descent, lunch at Huayracmachay around 1:00 pm. Continue downhill for three hours to Chaullay camp (2,900m), staying in traditional huts.

Day 3: Chaullay - Collpapampa - La Playa - Lucmabamba

Start at 6:00 AM for a 6-hour trek through the Santa Teresa valley, encountering waterfalls, wild orchids, and coffee, banana, and avocado plantations. Pass through Colpapampa, known as the "brow of the cloud forest." After lunch in La Playa, short hike to Lucmabamba basecamp (2,400m). Optional visit to organic coffee farms and hot springs at Santa Teresa.

Day 4: Lucmabamba - Llactapata - Hidroelectrica - Aguas Calientes

Early start hiking to Llactapata Inca site for views of Machu Picchu, Huayna Picchu, and Machu Picchu Mountain. Two-hour descent to Hidroelectrica station for lunch. Option to take train or hike to Aguas Calientes along the scenic path.

Starting Elevation: 2,450 meters ASL
Final Elevation: 2,000 meters ASL
Difficulty: Moderate to Challenging

Day 5: Machu Picchu!

Early start for sunrise at Machu Picchu. Two-hour guided tour followed by free exploration. Optional climbs of Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain available (extra cost). Return to Aguas Calientes for lunch and train to Ollantaytambo, followed by transfer to Cusco.
