Manu Reserved Zone 7 Days and 6 Nights
Day 1: Cusco - Cloud Forest - Paucartambo - Pilcopata
We will pick you up from your hotel between 5:30am and 6:00am and then depart Cusco, ascending through the Andes to the province of Paucartambo. On the way, we will visit the funeral towers of Ninamarca and then arrive at Ajanaco at 3600m. From here, we will descend into the cloud forest, which is full of beautiful orchids, heliconias, and primitive ferns. With some luck, we will be able to observe the cock of the rock, paraguan bird, trogons, and many others. This area is also inhabited by the spectacled bear. After this long trek, in the afternoon, we will arrive at the village of Pilcopata. Overnight in our Manu Green Lodge with shared bathrooms and showers.
Day 2: Pilcopata - Atalaya - Boca Manu
After breakfast, we will walk in the jungle and then take the bus to Atalaya, where we will board a boat and navigate the upper Madre de Dios River. On the way, we will see herons, egrets, the kingfisher, and the jungle condor. In the afternoon, we will stop at Boca Manu to enjoy a refreshing drink and later arrive at the lodge with shared bathrooms and showers.
Day 3: Boca Manu - Otorongo Lake
The boat ride will help us understand why Manu is so famous. On the banks of the river, you will be able to see turtles, white caimans, capybaras, and maybe even a jaguar. In the afternoon, we will arrive at our campsite in Otorongo, where we will be the only agency in this area. Later, we will visit the trails around Otorongo Lake and the giant otter observation tower. You will learn about the functions and secrets of this rainforest. We will spend the night in typical huts with mosquito nets, shared bathrooms, and showers.
Day 4: Otorongo Lake - Salvador Lake
Today we will visit Salvador Lake, located 1½ hours from Otorongo. Here, at the silent pace of the catamaran, you will have the chance to see a family of giant otters, black caimans, and different rare animals, such as the crested eagle or the glass frog. In this area, the animals have never suffered from hunting persecution. In the afternoon, we will return to Otorongo to spend the night.
Day 5: Otorongo Lake - Boca Manu
The cries of the howler monkey will wake us up, and after breakfast, we will start our return journey. On the Manu River, you will see different animals that you may not have seen on the way in. In the afternoon, we will arrive at our lodge in Boca Manu, where we can rest.
Day 6: Manu - Paititi Lodge
Today we will navigate against the current in the upper Madre de Dios River. Along the way, we will see many species of animals in the trees and on the banks of the river. At sunset, we will arrive at the Paititi lodge with showers and shared bathrooms. In this place, we can also see beautiful hummingbirds.
Day 7: Paititi Lodge - Cusco
After a delicious breakfast, we will sail to Atalaya, where we will take the bus to return to Cusco, passing again through the cloud forest. Finally, we will arrive in Cusco around 7:00pm, leaving behind the lush jungle and Andean landscapes.
